The Course Rules

Local Club Rules

When a player’s ball lies in the fairway, the player may take relief once by placing the original or another ball within one club length, in the general area, not nearer the hole than the spot of the original ball. The player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedure for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e

A ball is out of bounds if it comes to rest
a) Beyond boundary fences or white stakes.
b) On or beyond any white line defining the boundary of the course.
c) Within the fences of the railway reserve.
d) In the Clubhouse or on the brick surfaced car park, inclusive of its flower beds.
e) At the 18th hole, on or beyond the paved path surrounding the clubhouse.
f) On or in the cement ramps and subways on the 6th, 7th and 16th holes.

All grass covered drainage ditches and run off areas, running alongside fairways, are to be treated as part of the general area and not as penalty areas.
For a ball not found in temporary water in these areas, and if it is known or virtually certain that the ball is in the temporary water, the edge of the temporary water, where the ball entered, may be used as the spot of the ball for purposes of finding the nearest point of complete relief, for free relief. Once a ball has been put in play under Rule 16.1c, the original ball is no longer in play, even if found within 3 minutes. The dropped ball must be played.

As an extra option for relief under Rule 17.1d, for a ball that is in the Penalty area in front of the putting green, the player may drop the original or another ball in the dropping zone, located to the left of the teeing area. The dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3.

RULE 5 -8 EXCEPTIONS:
a) No free relief is available if the ball is in a penalty area,
b) Interference by anything OTHER than the condition covered by these local rules makes the
stroke clearly unreasonable, or
c) Interference by this condition would exist only through use of a clearly unreasonable club
choice, stance, swing or direction of play.

DROPPING ZONES as an additional free relief option for gardens and pathways are

a) Trees identified by a WHITE stake are No Play Zones. If interference exist by the tree, excluding the bowl, with the lie of the ball, stance or intended swing of the player, the player MUST take free relief under Rule 16.1f.

b) The turf nursery between the 5th and 6th fairways is a No Play Zone. The player MUST take free relief under Rule 16.1f.

c) All gardens within the course are No Play Zones. The player MUST take free relief under R16.1f. As an additional option for free garden relief there are drop zones left of the sixth green and behind the 16th green. The area right of the eighth green and behind the 12th green and the area left of the 1st fairway are NOT gardens. It is part of the general area.

Exceptions: No free relief is available if the ball is embedded in sand in a part of the general area that is NOT closely mown, or when neither the reference point nor any part of the course within one club length of the reference point is in the general area.
(For example, when the ball is embedded in the very base of the lip of a bunker or the spot right behind the ball, is in the bunker)

If a player’s ball is in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots that are on the fairway or within 4 club-lengths of the edge of the fairway, the player may take free relief under Rule 16.1. Interference does not exist if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.

As an extra option for relief under Rule 17.1d, for a ball that is in the Penalty area in front of the putting green, the player may drop the original or another ball in the dropping zone, located to the left of the teeing area. The dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3.
